Monochrome Weekend: Civil War Monument

Soldier 2
Captured with an Argus C3 35mm camera and Kodak Tri-X400 film at The South Bend City Cemetery, St. Joseph County, Indiana

We have shared the incommunicable experience of war. We have felt, we still feel, the passion of life to its top. In our youths, our hearts were touched with fire. -Oliver Wendell Holmes

Nice to see a 'film' entry; never tried the 'brick'. Who is the figure in the shot?

great shot ... love it ..

Wheels of Inevitability

John, to the best of my knowledge, the statue is a "universal soldier." The brick is a fun if somewhat cumbersome device.

Vernz, thanks for the comment.

Very very nice. I used to live in Indiana. My folks were born and grew up there. We were there until my Dad joined the Army, then we stared moving around. Came back there while he was in Nam for about 18 months, then started moving around again when he returned...eventually I ended up in Minnesota where I raised my family. Still, Indiana has a pretty warm spot in my heart.

Sistertex,

Indiana gives me heartburn, too. As they say at the Indianapolis 500, just skiddin'.

I like the feel of this shot for want of a better word.

I remember the fellow very well. Did you happen to stop in and say hello to my sister Sarah and/or bro-in-law Ken at the Griffon three or seven blockes from the city cemetery?

A fine monument.

Thanks, Carver, Daniela, lina, Spiderama, and Dragonstar. Michael, I drive by the Griffon often. I'll have to stop in some time.

Cool capture. That's a great subject for your shot.
'South Bend' brought back some flashbacks from waaaaay back when!

That scene is so suited for black and white. Very nice.
