Spider on Dewy Web

After experimenting recently with alternative forms of photography with the Lensbaby, and more recently a Holga plastic camera which--get this--uses film (!), I decided to delve back into the high resolution digital world with the Nikon D90 and the macro lens. I like this one, and thought it would be a good one for Nature Notes.

Click to enlarge, unless you're arachnophobic.

Holy cow that is an amazing picture - spider looks about the size of a two storey house! Great Nature notes pic :D

Hello David..I am working on getting over my fear of spiders..which enlarging this photo didn't help. LOL. But what a great macro. My husband was asking me if I needed another lens for my camera. A macro perhaps? Thank you for posting this to Nature Notes...Michelle

Cool. Very cool. My kids and I were trying to figure out what was going in with the water drops. Dew?

OK, just call me Sherlock Holmes. Actually, my eight year old pointed out the title is SPIDER ON A DEWY WEB.

Can I get away with saying it's been a long day???

You should get some award or other for that, it is almost unbelievable.

Bird,
Thanks. The spider was really a little guy, but looks like a monster thanks to the macro lens.

Carver,
Thanks for stopping by.

Michelle,
I think the macro lens is great for nature photos. It ranks right up there with a long zoom lens.

#167,
Again I am reminded of Marx Brothers dialogue, as I seem to be in almost any situation.
Groucho, as Rufus T. Firefly in Duck Soup, said of a treasury report, "Why, a four year old child could understand this." Then in an aside to his secretary, "Run out and get me a four year old child, I can't make head or tail
out of it." Good thing you had an eight-year-old child around.

Dave,
Thanks for the compliment. I may be sending this off somewhere, either to a contest or Nature Photographer magazine.

Great shot! Everything is in focus, and the spider looks poised for action. The reflections in the water are a great contrast for the big, hairy guy. I'm probably one of the few women out here who love spiders - at a bit of a distance, of course.

Maraca, thanks for your kind comment. I think your statement that everything is in focus proves that I followed a cardinal rule of wildlife photography, which is get the eyes in focus. If one can do that, it gives the impression the whole picture is in focus.

That is so cool. Love it. I have a spider web too, on my Monochrome pic this week.
