Singing Wren

Since the wrens have come back this spring, I've intended to get some pictures of them. It seems whenever one is close enough, I'm sans camera. Today, I set up a camouflage blind near a dogwood tree where the wrens are nesting in a birdhouse, and waited till I got a clear shot. I also learned that these are house wrens instead of the Carolina wrens I've always assumed them to be.

Lovely, well worth waiting for, eh?

Michelle,
Thanks. The blind was a Christmas gift from my wife. She overcame her revulsion of hunting and bought it at a local sporting goods store. BTW, I'm not a hunter, and will only use the blind for shooting pictures.

Dave,
Thanks, and yes, it was worth the wait.

Woah, that's dedication. You certainly got a great shot of that wren, singing its little heart out.

I have a soft spot for wrens, again from my childhood. One nested every year in a box outside our sunroom window, which delighted my shut-in grandmother. She would often smile and talk to "Little Jenny Wren" from her rocker. I haven't seen one in many years.

MM,
Thanks. We seem to have an abundance of these little critters in this neck of the Indiana woods.

I think this is a nice photo, DAvid, and I am surprised about the blind. I never have used one and have been pretty close to a lot of birds. I found if I stand still and don't move they will watch me and finally accept me. But as I get older and have more problems, it is getting harder to stand still.

Abe,

Thanks. i too have found it possible to take bird pictures by standing and being patient. Perhaps a more important element of the Christmas gift from my wife was a collapsible three-legged stool that lets me sit while I wait for the birds to pose. I could probably just sit out in the yard, but I'd like to think the blind increases the odds of getting a good picture.

Bill,

Thanks. Sometime I'd like to get out west to get some pictures in your area.
